ΘΑΛΕΙΑ ΓΚΑΤΖΟΥΛΗ
Ο τρόπος της εικαστικής μου αφήγησης είναι αναπόφευκτα επηρεασμένος από την εμπειρία, στη διάρκεια των χρόνων, μέσα από την ενασχόλησή μου με την επιστημονική μελέτη και έρευνα της κυτταρικής δομής και της λειτουργίας της. Από αυτή τη δεξαμενή των εικόνων που αποκτήθηκε, ξεκινάει ένας στοχασμός γύρω από την έννοια της ύλης και της ζωής. Η σύνθεση της ύλης, οι φυσικές και χημικές ιδιότητες των ατόμων και κυττάρων, η ενέργεια, η φθορά και η αποδόμηση της ύλης , λειτουργούν ως πρώτη ύλη για τη δημιουργία του προσωπικού μου εικαστικού τοπίου. Μέσα από αυτή τη διαδικασία προκύπτουν ερωτήματα σχετικά με το πώς λειτουργούν τα ένστικτα, εκφράζονται οι αισθήσεις, ικανοποιούνται οι επιθυμίες, καταχωρούνται οι μνήμες, καταγράφεται η αντίληψη παράλληλα και ταυτόχρονα με τις βασικές λειτουργίες της ζωής. Τα σχέδια μου αναπτύσσονται ανάμεσα στον λεπτομερή γραφισμό και την αυτόματη γραφή, αναζητούν εικόνες αυθόρμητες που μοιάζουν με αποσπάσματα οργανικού συνόλου και εξελίσσονται ως αποτυπώσεις μιας πνευματικής άσκησης.
Η Θάλεια Γκατζούλη (γ.1966, Δράμα) ζει και εργάζεται ως καλλιτέχνης και Πυρηνική ιατρός στη Θεσσαλονίκη.
THALIA GATZOULI
My artistic narrative is inevitably influenced by my experience and involvement, over the years, in the scientific study and investigation of cell structure and function. From this pool of images that I have acquired begins a meditation on the concept of matter and life. The physical and chemical properties of atoms and molecules, the composition of matter, the energy, matter’s wear and degradation—these are the raw materials I use to compose a personal artistic landscape.
Through this process I try to ask questions about how the instincts operate, how sensations are expressed, how desires are met, how memories are registered, and how perception is embodied, parallel to and simultaneously with the basic life functions.
My drawings are developed using detailed graphism and automatic writing, through which I generate spontaneous images that resemble patches of an organic whole which evolve into the footprints of a spiritual and mental exercise.
Thalia Gatzouli (b.1966, Drama) lives and works as an artist and physician of Nuclear Medicine in Thessaloniki.
